The U.S. divorce rate is actually improving, according to a New York Times op-ed. “The facts are that divorce is down, and today’s marriages are more stable than they have been in decades. Perhaps it is worth stocking up on silver anniversary cards after all.”

Going to a Sundance film is a little like gambling with good odds. I've seen a few stinkers, but most have been really good. In Salt Lake City, it's also interesting to see which screenings the filmmakers (and possibly some cast and crew) will end up attending (they always have shown up at the Park City screenings I have attended). Sundance is finally in full swing both here in Salt Lake City and in Park City. I try to see at least two screenings -- at $10 per ticket on a tight budget AND a very busy life as a mom, employee, activist and (of course) blogger, it's difficult to justify more than that.

Sometimes I love living in Utah -- we have Moab, great mountains, a really salty lake, the Sundance Film Festival, a few wonderful people -- among other cool things.

Sometimes it's very embarrassing. We just passed a regressive law in 2004 to forbid marriage to gay couples, one of  our state politicians is trying to ban gay/straight alliance clubs ( Read more... )
